Absolute disappointment
By Kamel | on Sunday, May 22, 2022
Let me start by saying that I owned 3 generations of Altimas. A 2000, 2014, and a 2021. I am absolutely disappointed in this one. I bought it brand new. The SV version came out to about 30 thousand. It has some good features like blindspot detection, great AC cooling, and can take the bumps in Houston roads. My main reason for writing this review is because of how disappointed I am. 1. The WORST thing about this car are its safety features that CANNOT be turned off. It has emergency braking. You would think it's a good feature, but to me, it was not. A person cut me off and tried to do a U-turn. The right lane was empty, and I could have swerved to avoid it safely. Instead, OUTSIDE OF MY CONTROL, the car hard braked. The person behind me almost hit me. But he luckily braked as well. You can turn off that feature, HOWEVER, you have to turn it off every single time you get into the car. And it is annoying. I went to the dealership to have the fuse removed or something, they said they wouldn't do it. So I'm stuck with it. It became less sensitive now that I turned off the collision warning. I pay attention when I drive. I don't need these nanny features. 2. The rear-view visibility is atrocious. The collision sensor is on top of the windshield and it pushed down the mirror down so most of what you see is the back of your back seat and trunk. I had to buy an extended mirror from amazon just to feel like I can see behind me. 3. Insanely massive blind-spot. They think adding blind-spot sensors and lights would help but it's pretty slow on detecting cars so you have to be very careful changing lanes. 4. Brakes started squeaking while I turned slowly. I had to take it to another visit at the dealer. They said the back-plate had moved. So that's another pointless visit for a brand new car. 5. 2014 Altima had 19 gallon gas tank. This one has a 15 gallon tank. I have to make more stops at the gas station. That is annoying. 6. The Altima used to be 22k base msrp. Now it's 25k msrp. But it lacks many features. So I had to buy a SV to get anything useful for 30k. The S didn't even have power seats. 7. It doesn't feel sturdy. It just doesn't feel as well built as the 2014 Altima, and definitely nowhere near as good as my 2000 Altima. I guess planned obsolescence is a real thing with all cars these days. The Good 1. Smooth engine. Smoother transmission than previous altimas. They famously had major CVT issues in 2013. 2. Fast, and holds on to speeds better. Quiet on the highway. 3. Steering is responsive. Light understeer but expected with front wheel drive car. 4. About as good on gas as the 2014 altima, same engine I guess. Due to my older Altima's I didn't look around for other cars. Next time I purchase a car I definitely will be giving every dealership a visit and test driving everything before purchasing. I am incredibly disappointed in Nissan.… - 5.0
